High Point and Hickory, NC are where the hub of furniture manufacturing is centered in the United States. You can find so many local craftsmen, galleries, and shopping centers like the Hickory Furniture Mart. People travel from far and wide to see the Amish, American, and International craftsmanship of North Carolina. If you’re planning to stop at the Mart or want to know more, you’ve come to the right place.
What is the Hickory Furniture Mart?

Since 1960, the Hickory Furniture Mart has been a one-stop-shop for furniture. It is one of North Carolina’s top visitor attractions.
The expansive complex has four-levels housing 100+ factory outlets, custom order stores, and manufacturers’ galleries. This collaboration represents nearly 1,000 recognizable brand names in the furniture industry. At the Mart you’ll also find an onsite hotel, a gourmet café, and a coffeehouse with Wi-Fi internet access. As you explore the furniture showrooms you’ll find quality domestic and international manufacturers, accessories, fabrics, lighting, rugs, wall coverings and more.
How to Prepare for this Shopping Trip

Based on previous visitor reviews and the Hickory Furniture Mart’s pre-trip checklist, here are things guests should prepare before visiting.
Documents, planners, and guides
- Make a list (mental, digital or physical) of the furniture you want to look for
- Have a budget in mind, not only as total spent, but by room or furniture type.
- Make and print floor plans with precise dimensions. This can be helpful when speaking to reps and designers. The Mart has a Room Planner program you are welcome to use.
- Explore the product catalog, call specific vendors or request the Buying Guide so you have a clear idea of what to expect in furniture.
Discounts and ways to make the trip easier
- Take advantage of sales, promotions, or applicable special incentive programs
- See if discounted hotel rates are available through the Mart.
- Traveling with children? There are children’s activities nearby that you can ask a guest services representative about.
- If there is a possibility you will purchase multiple items, prepare a trailer, moving truck, or explore the Mart’s consolidated shipping.
- Do you need to know areas of accessibility before arriving? (We talk more about this under “How to navigate…” section)
- If you prefer an area in the parking lot, plan what time you need to arrive to get to your desired area before the main flow of visitors arrive.
Things to wear or have on hand
- Many visitors expressed having a tape measure was handy
- If you’d like to color match furniture, bring samples of wood, stains, paints, fabrics, or other materials.
- Pack comfortable walking shoes.
- Temperatures inside vary. Wear appropriate layers.
- Clear water bottles. There are fountains and refill stations throughout the Mart.
